What is SIDE?

SIDE is an umbrella student lead organization that serves as a centralized source of information and support for students at the Perelman School of Medicine working on issues relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our mission is to promote a positive and engaging climate along students at PSOM.

What does SIDE do?

  • Interface with PSOM’s cultural affinity groups, faith-based organizations, and professional clubs.

  • Provide funding for student-lead initiatives that align with SIDE’s mission.

  • Voice student concerns to PSOM administration.

  • Host monthly general body meetings to offer a safe space for free discussion about issues impacting our community.

Ways to get involved

  • Apply for SIDE funding to support your student lead initiative! The project proposal form can be found in emails sent out by the SIDE board or email any board member to receive the link.

  • Attend any of our monthly general body meetings to share your ideas and thoughts with the student body.

  • Apply to be on the next SIDE board. Applications typically open up in the spring semester and board positions are one year commitments.

Example of funded events

  • Educational events to raise awareness about issues including language access services in healthcare, caring for individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities, and abortion care for queer and trans patients.

  • Social events and mixers with food and games to foster community.

  • Cultural and religious holiday celebrations for the student body.
